Nobel Prize in Literature

Endowed by Alfred Nobel, and awarded by the Swedish Academy, the Nobel Prize in Literature seeks to reward a writer "in the field of literature [who has written] the most outstanding work in an ideal direction". It is well known for its idiosyncratic choices; often ignoring giants in favor of more obscure, but often deserving, writers. Recently, the prize has courted controversy with the awarding  of the prize to Peter Handke and Bob Dylan.
