Unboxing Scientists

Display Background

This display, "Unboxing Scientists," highlights historical, contemporary, and modern-day African American scientists and science activists of note.

Each highlighted scientist has their own box that unfolds to tell a rich story, proving we should never put people into boxes.

Books that feature these scientists and their areas of interest include popular works, biographies, and essays. Please find the books related to each scientist on their respective tabs of this guide. All books are available through Furman University.

If you have suggestions for future POC, LGBTQIA+, or women scientists to be featured in an "unboxing," please drop us a note in the box labeled "suggestions" in the science library or email Paige Dhyne with the subject line: "Unboxing Scientists."

All boxes will become a permanent part of the collection.
