Students receive text and email alerts in emergency situations. For up-to-date weather information, check the National Weather Service website and follow Furman on Twitter and Facebook.

Weather Policy

Student assistants on campus are expected to work their regular hours if the library is open.

Inclement weather during the weekdays:

When the University is closed, the Library will be closed.

If evening classes are cancelled or it is announced that classes are cancelled for the following day, the library will close at 6:00 pm or as determined by the evening circulation supervisor.

When students are on campus, but classes are dismissed early (cancelled sometime during the day), the Library is OPEN with abbreviated hours. The library will open at regular time and close at time of early dismissal.

If severe weather occurs on the weekend and road conditions are unsafe, then the library will not be open.

When the library is opening late or closing early, supervisors will attempt to contact student workers to tell them if and when to report. Student workers will also be advised to call the library voicemail menu (864-294-2190) in case of severe weather.  Library student workers are expected to check the main library voicemail menu and to report to work unless they are otherwise notified.
