It is unknown when the majority of this collection was donated to the Library. The correspondence is stamped with a red “01” [Acc. 1959-01] indicating that the materials were found in the library in 1959, having been given at some point to the S.C. Baptist Collection on the downtown campus before the move to the new campus. Claudia K. Townes, granddaughter of Johnson, donated his bound Minutes of the Baptist State Convention of South Carolina 1821-1833 in 1934. Mrs. Emory Halloway (Ella Brooks Harris), great-granddaughter of William B. Johnson, donated the daguerreotype in 1964.
