About

Mission

The mission of Special Collections and Archives is to actively support the instructional and research needs of all members of the Furman community to a standard of excellence.

We do this by:

  • Collecting, preserving, and making available a rich array of rare and unique printed materials, manuscripts, the permanent records of the university, and other documents of cultural heritage.
  • Partnering with faculty, staff, and students in the critical and imaginative use of our collections through research projects, exhibitions, programming, and digital projects.
  • Serving as a welcoming and open research facility for students and scholars at all levels.
  • Using our expertise and subject knowledge to promote and support excellence and innovation in teaching, learning and research, on campus and in the community.

Vision

We will create a dynamic and supportive learning environment where the documents of cultural heritage in our care are actively used to inspire critical analysis, innovation, creativity, and lifelong learning, on campus and in the community. We will exceed expectations in everything we do.
