Scope and Contents

The Rev. William B. Johnson Collection consists mainly of correspondence, with some receipts, a bound volume of Minutes of the Baptist State Convention of South Carolina, 1821-1833, and a daguerreotype of William B. Johnson.

The correspondence deals with church discipline, Columbian College, Washington, D.C.; the Reynolds-Furman controversy; the American Baptist Home Missions Society; the removal of Furman University to Greenville, S.C.; the beginnings of the Southern Baptist Convention; Board of Domestic Missions; the Foreign Mission Board; The American and Foreign Bible Society; the Charleston Juvenile Female Society; South Carolina Publication Society; Ker Boyce; Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and personal affairs. .
