The Special Collections and Archives reading room is open, by appointment, to members of the Furman community from Monday to Friday, 9:00 – 5:00, until the end of December, 2020. Per Furman University’s campus opening visitor’s guidelines, only Furman faculty, staff, and students are permitted on campus and in the library building. We have a limited capacity for in-person class visits this fall. Some class visits of less than 10 people may be possible, but the majority of class instruction work and visits will be online. We are happy to offer virtual special collections instruction sessions via Zoom tailored to the needs of each class. Students can then make followup appointments with us to work on materials related to their class work and assignments. While we cannot create hold shelves or separate book trucks of material for a particular class to use together, we will work with faculty to create signup sheets for subsets of our materials so students working on the same assignment will have access to different, and exclusive, sources.
We remain happy to field remote questions related to our materials, as always. We can provide a limited number of scans or images of documents from our collections as needed. Please call or email us at any time.
