S.C. Baptist Historical Collection

Access Change for S.C. Baptist Church Microfilm

The South Carolina Baptist Church Records on microfilm collection has been moved to the Library's General Collection on the main floor, which means patrons can view them whenever the Library is open and are not restricted to the limited hours of our department.

Part of the collection is now online in the Digital Collections Center. Over the next 2 years, additional records will be added to include all the church records that we have copyright permissions to make available.

The microfilm will still be available through interlibrary loan with your local library that has microfilm viewing equipment. The loan period is up to 4 weeks. For questions please email libraryreference@furman.edu or call (864) 294-2195.

The South Carolina Baptist Church Records on microfilm collection does not contain records from every Baptist church in South Carolina. Only a limited number of churches chose to have their records microfilmed.

Records for each church vary greatly. You may find minutes, constitution and bylaws, church history, and/or membership rolls. Historical data such as birth, baptism, and marriage records were normally kept by the minister performing the service and are usually not included in the official records of the church. For a better description of the microfilm reel contents, check under Description in the individual church microfilm catalog record.
