Biographical Sketch

Born in Charlotte, N.C. in 1928, Edwin R. Quattlebaum was the son of Edgar R. and Martha Garrison Quattlebaum. A 1948 graduate of Furman University, Rev. Quattlebaum graduated from the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary in 1953 with a B.D. degree and was ordained by the Gentilly Baptist Church in New Orleans, La., in 1949. He pastored five churches in Alabama and Mississippi before moving to South Carolina in 1964. He pastored the following South Carolina churches; First Baptist Church in Hemingway, Northside Baptist Church in Sumter, Springdale Baptist Church in West Columbia, Director of Missions for Welsh Neck Baptist Association in Hartsville, Bethabara Baptist Church in Cross Hill, and Interim Pastor at First Baptist Church of Enoree. Rev. Quattlebaum was also a member of First Baptist Church of Laurens, the Hartsville Civitan Club, and one of the original founders of Raceway Ministries. 

Quattlebaum was pastor of Bethabara Baptist Church from May 1998 through September 2006. He completed an extensive history of the church in 2007, The history of Bethabara Baptist Church 1794-2007: celebrating more than 200 years of service to our God.

Quattlebaum passed away on June 4, 2009.
