Oliver Hart was born in Warminster Township, in Buck County, Pennsylvania, July 5, l723. He was ordained in 1749 and became pastor of the Baptist Church in Charlestown the same year. This pastorate continued until 1780. Rhode Is1and College (now Brown University) at its first commencement in 1769 conferred on Hart an honorary M. A. degree. He was chiefly instrumental in establishing the Charleston Baptist Association. In 1780, he became pastor at Hopewell, N. J. and died there December 31, 1795.
