The Rev. H. Floyd Surles Papers consists of correspondence, an expense ledger, minutes and photographs. The correspondence [25 pieces] is both personal and in Surles’ position as a Baptist pastor and as secretary-treasurer of the Central Baptist Ministers Conference. Elected secretary-treasurer in 1931, Surles kept that position for many years. The conference was composed of Baptist ministers from the central part of the state. The small ledger records expenses 1911-1913, expenses for raising chickens in 1947, as well as poetry.
The Miscellaneous file contains a small address book, a church bulletin, a brochure “Facts about Fairfield County,” a 1962 S.C. Baptist Hospital account statement for Rev. H. Floyd Surles, several receipts, two Christmas cards, and a report of the Last Tribute to James Wiley Winters funeral service, June 10, 1948 where Surles was one of the pastors that officiated.
