Biographical Sketch

Benjamin F. Broadway was born in Privateer, Sumter County, S.C. on August 9, 1915, to George L. and Bertha Finch Broadway. He graduated from Furman University in 1938 and from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1943. The Pendleton Street Baptist Church, Greenville ordained Broadway in 1941.

During WWII, Broadway served as chaplain in the U.S. Navy. Afterward, he pastored churches in Kentucky and Florence County, S.C., then Memorial Church, St. George, S.C. from 1947-1959, and First Baptist Church, Hamlet, N.C. from 1959-1970.  Broadway was also General Secretary of the Wilmington Baptist Association and Superintendent of Missions, Wilmington, N.C.

Broadway married Alice Lanier (1944-1985) in 1944 and they had four children. Broadway passed away on December 3, 2000, in Laurinburg, North Carolina.
