The Thursday Club was organized in the autumn of 1889 as a literary club for women. The founder was Mrs. Mary Putnam Gridley. The Thursday Club has met continuously since 1889 and celebrated its 125^th anniversary in March 2014. The Club meets every Thursday morning from October through April, excluding Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter holidays.
