Acquisition
Various donors created this collection over a number of years. Correspondence stamped with a red “1” means it was found in the James B. Library in 1959. Mrs. Ollin J. Owens (Loulie) gave the correspondence pertaining to Furman University 1926-1927 stamped with a red “7” in 1959.
John L. Plyler, Jr. gave the correspondence pertaining to Furman University 1930-1932 stamped with a red “26” in 1961. Plyler found the material in a basement room of the Infirmary (former Administration Building, original President’s home) when the downtown campus was being demolished.
McGlothlin’s daughter, Mrs. A.T. Odell (Kathryn), donated her scrapbook about her father in 1984.
Accretion 1997-003 given by Dr. A.V. Huff, Jr. consisted of a bound photocopy of McGlothlin’s diary and two folders of writings.
Accretion 1998-005 given by McGlothlin’s son, James H. McGlothlin [1910-1999], consisted of his father’s book, A Vital Ministry: the pastor of to-day in the service of man, 1913; printed copy of his father’s dissertation Die Berner Taufer bis 1532, August 1902; and a bound photocopy of McGlothlin’s diary.
