Acquisition

Rev. Grace Lovell, daughter of George and Julia Lovell, donated the collection in 1997.

Material donated, but likely returned to the donor:

  • A scrapbook (1941-1970) was microfilmed; microfilm is available for viewing. Includes newspaper clippings, correspondence, and church bulletins that document the ministry of Rev. S. George Lovell, Jr., including his D.D. degree awarded by Furman in 1966; his election as SCBC president in 1967; and his involvement with Julia W. Croft whose estate funded the Iverson L. Brooks Fund, the interest to benefit Furman University and Mercer University.
  • World War II correspondence of the donor’s parents.
