The Rev. Jonathan Davis Papers consist mainly of recipient copies of correspondence to Davis as well as bills, notes, receipts, statements and an indenture. The correspondence is primarily from Baptist pastors dealing with denominational affairs, especially the Furman Institution, as well as letters and financial documents dealing with Davis’ personal business affairs. Davis’ December 6, 1842 letter was his resignation from the Furman Institution Board of Trustees due to financial problems. Correspondence between Davis and James C. Furman is found in the James C. Furman D.D. Papers. Correspondence between Davis and his family is found in the Rev. Jonathan Davis Family Papers.
