The collection is arranged by types of material, with the correspondence arranged chronologically.

The collection contains correspondence from J.O.B. Dargan written between 1832 and 1878.  The vast majority of the letters are to James C. Furman and discuss personal, ministerial, and South Carolina Baptist Convention matters. 

The collection also includes sermons written by John Hugh Dargan between 1872 and 1877, as well as his lecture notes from his time at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.  The baptismal robe belonged to Dargan and was handmade by his mother.
