This collection is arranged by person and then chronologically.

Scope and Contents

The collection consists of account statements and receipts from local Greenville merchants, promissory notes, deposit tickets, deeds, a plat, a stock certificate, and a contract.  James L. Orr served as the executor for the estates of several deceased persons and the majority of documents pertain to debts presented in probate court for payment.

Documents pertaining to H.P. Hammett range from 1876-1900 with the majority after his death on May 8, 1891. Documents pertaining to Emma W. Westfield (1835–1882) range from 1878-1884. She was the wife of John Ossie Westfield (1828–1873). There are several documents from 1883 and1884 that may pertain to her son, John Ossie Westfield [b. 1870].

Personal accounts are also included for James L. Orr and for George P. Hammett [1871-1941], youngest son of H.P. Hammett, as well as for several additional various individuals.  The documents pertaining to James L. Orr range from 1885 to 1907 and from 1893 to 1904 for George P. Hammett.
