This collection consists mainly of correspondence, the majority being written to DeVotie from 1839 – 1891, the bulk during the 1870s to 1880s. Correspondence to his second wife includes 1876, 1883-1884, 1891, 1897, and 1908. Subjects are mostly personal and financial, with some regarding church work. The majority of handwritten sermons are numbered with scripture references. The church transfer letters are for Beach Creek, Shole Creek, and New Bethel.
