Scope and Contents

The correspondence in this collection was written to Frederick M. Hawkins before, during, and after he attended the Furman Theological Institution. The first letter is from Jesse Hartwell, professor at the Furman Theological Institute, urging Hawkins to attend Furman. Several of the remaining correspondents include his mother, fellow student Malachi Strickling, and Samuel Furman, professor at the Theological Institution and son of Richard Furman (1755-1825).
