Arrangement

The collection is arranged in four series, as follows: Series I, Personal Files, 1976-2002 ; Series II, Montague Village Living-Learning Center, 1980-1987; Series 3, Foreign Study: The Peculiar Treatment of the English Department for Many Years (files from 1975-1994); Series 4, Intercollegiate Athletics: Costs, Philosophy, Studies and Recommendations, 1969-1993.

Scope and Contents

This collection is composed of personal files of Duncan McArthur during his time as an English professor at Furman from 1971-2007. Dr. McArthur was involved with various committees and affairs on campus. His files contain relevant resources to significant subjects such as the defunding of The Horse issue of The Paladin Newspaper in 1999 and 2001-2002; Montague Village Living-Learning Center; Schaefer Kendrick; the English Department's role in the Fall Term in England Program; and studies of intercollegiate athletics at Furman, including that by the University Athletics Committee (1975). Document types include personal notes, correspondence, minutes, publications, newspaper clippings, and reports.
