The Mims Family Correspondence dates from 1844 to 1878 with the bulk from 1844 to 1853. There are 129 letters; the majority are to either James S. Mims or his wife, Sarah. Frequent correspondents include James’ brothers Thomas Mims (1819-1864) and Samuel Alexander (S.A.) Mims (1818-1864); sisters Catherine A. Mims (1821-1849) and Columbia J. Mims (1827-1911); Sarah’s twin sister Harriet McIver (1825-1857); Samuel’s daughter Olive (1859-1940); and Samuel’s pastor William Nolen. He was from South Carolina, studied at Furman University (1857-’58) and was more or less a home Missionary.
