Arrangement

The collection is arranged in alphabetical order by folder name.

Scope and Contents

The Greenville Woman’s Club Records document the activities of the club 1948-2004, with the bulk from 1960-1973. The majority of the collection consists of press books, but also contains brochures, by-laws, certificates, annual meeting minutes, committee lists, correspondence, directories, financial and tax records, gift and memorial records, histories, lease papers, photographs, newspaper articles, notes, and site plans. The earliest records are lacking.

The press books were originally housed in scrapbook binders. The pages have been removed from their original binders, maintained in original order and are re-housed into acid-free folders for preservation. The press books contain newspaper clippings that document activities of the club and events at the Beattie House through press releases and news articles. There is information on the house move and renovations, the house properties and the historical marker.

A portrait of Mrs. John H. Bateman [Helen Louise (Briedenbach) Bateman Harshman, 1882-1958], first president, is also part of the collection. Her husband was John Henry Bateman (May 22, 1880-August 2, 1952), manager of Southern Worsted Mill, Greenville.
