Administrative Information

Acquisition

The Charlie Spivak Papers were found in Special Collections in 2004. These materials were probably donated to Furman University in January 1983 as part of the Charlie Spivak Band Orchestrations.

Custodial History

Spivak’s widow, “Dubby” Lambert Spivak, gave the Band Orchestrations and Spivak’s trumpet to Furman music professor, Dan Ellis, in January 1983 to be housed in the Duke Library.  In July 2008, the Music Library had possession of the Charlie Spivak Band Orchestrations and Jenny Colvin, Music Librarian, transferred the collection to Special Collections and Archives (Acc. 2008-063). The trumpet remains displayed in Professor Gary Malvern’s office in the Music Department.
