Room Reservation in the Furman Libraries: Home

Guidelines for Reserving Rooms

The James B. Duke Library, Maxwell Music Library, and  Sanders Science Library have rooms that may be scheduled for special events, meetings, or classes. Any scheduled use of these rooms must comply with the following guidelines:

  1. Only groups affiliated with Furman University can reserve rooms in the Furman University Libraries.

  2. Rooms must be reserved during hours that the Libraries are open.

  3. Students cannot reserve meeting rooms or classrooms for personal study or group study use. Students needing study space may reserve a study room.

  4. All users of the rooms are expected to preserve the space in good order and condition. This includes cleaning up after their event, returning the space to its original condition, and making sure trash and recycling are in the proper receptacles within 24 hours of the event.

  5. The budget unit head of the department reserving the room assumes responsibility for accidents. This also means filing Accidental Injury Reports with Public Safety.

  6. All parking and traffic regulations must be followed.

The Duke Library offers the following meeting rooms:

Haynsworth Room Duke Library. #128 12 Reserve through 25Live. Only one regularly scheduled class per day during the fall and spring terms will be allowed in the Haynsworth Room. This will be decided on a first-come, first-serve basis. This room is only available for reservation during normal Duke Library hours. Lower Level Conference Room Duke Library (next to Cothran Center) 12 This room is only available for reservation during normal Duke Library hours. Events will not be scheduled before 8:30AM or after 5:00PM Monday-Friday. It will not be scheduled on the weekends. Madeline Eastergard
Pitts Room Duke Library. #203 16 This room is reserved for library instruction. Events from officially sanctioned campus groups may be scheduled in here if they pose no possible conflicts with library instruction sessions. This room is only available for reservation during normal Duke Library hours. Events will not be scheduled before 8:30AM or after 5:00PM Monday-Friday. It will not be scheduled on the weekends.

The Duke Library and Maxwell Music Library have several classrooms for library instruction and/or class instruction. See the list below for more information.
