Evaluating Your Sources: Currency

Ask yourself...

Does my information for this project need to be absolutely current? A paper on neuro-augmentation, for example, would need to include the latest research. A paper on Shakespeare's use of irony, however, might not.

If my information needs to be current...

When was this information published?

When was it created (original experiment or writing)?

Is there a more recent edition/version/update?

If this source is important but not current, where can I go to find the more current information?

Look for...

A copyright date for a book or book chapter.

A publication date for a journal, magazine, or newspaper.

A posting date for a blog, facebook entry, etc.

A last updated date for other web pages.
