The Robert J. Maxwell Music Library serves the needs of the Department of Music, but also supports learning throughout the University. The Library strives to collect musical materials in all formats that represent the musical canon and other important musical works, styles, and genres. Curriculum and performance drive development of the collection, yet the collection also includes a limited number of resources that support faculty research and performance. The Music Library and its faculty and staff provide services necessary to assist users at all levels. Reference service is available daily, some evenings, and by appointment. Library instruction is offered for courses, and staff is available to assist users with listening lab equipment and materials location.
Oversight of the Becky Tapp Daniels Classroom containing the MIDI computer lab and of the Edna Gladden Hartness Seminar Room is provided by the Music Department. The use of these resources (the library, the lab, and the seminar room) overlaps and creates a fertile environment for the study and creation of music, projects, and documents.
