Who Collects That Data?

A variety of governmental agencies compile, analyze and publish statistical data.

Including:

U.S. Census Bureau - The Census Bureau serves as the leading source of quality data about the nation's people and economy.

What Data The Census Bureau Collects & When:

    Population & Housing Census - every 10 years
    Economic Census - every 5 years
    Census of Governments - every 5 years
    American Community Survey - annually
    A variety of surveys -- both Demographic & Economic
    Economic Indicators - each indicator is released on a specific schedule

Census 2000 Gateway

U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics - the principal fact-finding agency for the federal government in the broad field of labor, economics, and statistics. It provides data on employment, wages, inflation, productivity, and many other topics.  They publishe a large amount of information on employment and wages by occupation, including career information, employment levels and projections, and various types of earnings data.

Statistics on Occupations

Federal Bureau of Investigation - Regularly publishes or contributes to a series of statistical crime reports and publications, detailing specific offenses and outlining trends including the Uniform Crime Reports.

U.S. Department of Education - ED's mission is to promote student achievement and preparation for global competitiveness by fostering educational excellence and ensuring equal access.  The department was created in 1980 by combining offices from several federal agencies. In addition to establishing policies on federal financial aid for education, distributing & monitoring those funds, the department also collects data on America's schools.
