Library Porch Use Policy

The lower level of the front porch of the James B. Duke library is available to be scheduled for use by Furman University campus groups.

Although we love to work with our campus partners, there are some things to know:

  • There are to be NO activities involving paint, liquid chalk, dyes, or any other materials that may stain or damage the slate tile of the porch. In addition marking the steps or covered porch with chalk is NOT allowed.
  • Activities may not block or interfere with the Handicapped access ramp on either the upper or lower porch.
  • The library does not provide tables, chairs or any other accessories. Requests for event support, like tables and chairs, may be placed through Furman Facilities Services department.
  • Chairs and tables may NOT be moved from the upper level of the library porch.
  • Solicitation by non-Furman groups is not allowed.

Groups and organizations are responsible for cleaning up after the event, including scheduling removal of tables and chairs and making sure trash and recycling are in the proper receptacles within 24 hours of the event.

If your group or organization would like to reserve the Library porch, you must complete the porch reservation request form, and someone will respond, via e-mail, within 48 hours.

Thank you for including the library in your campus outreach!
